Now in its sixth year, Pitcher and Basin invites young people from around the Diocese of Wilmington to join together with their friends to give back to the community. This year there are three chances to serve. For two weeks (first and third) we will partner with Habitat for Humanity Choptank. These groups will return to Cambridge and Easton, MD and complete work on continuing projects and begin work on new ones.
As of April 17, 2012, weeks one and three are closed. We invite you to consider signing up for week two!
New this year, participants in week two (July 15-21, 2012) will live and work in Wicomico County, MD in Salisbury working with local families in need.
Participants will also spend one whole day - as a group at our host parishes, St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners and St. Francis de Sales, to say “thanks” to the parish community by pitching in and completing projects on their to-do list.
Space is limited to 24 young people per week (12 new and 12 returning). Read on for some frequently asked questions and more information. Then go online and register. Final deadline has passed but has been extended to round out the few spaces that remain for week two.

The Saint George Trek is The National Catholic Committee on Scouting’s® high adventure Catholic leadership program for older Catholic Boy Scouts and Venture Crew members at Philmont Scout Ranch. The program brings Catholic high school youth from around the country together with selected priests, religious and seminarians for eleven days of backpacking in the context of a vocation retreat.
The 2013 Saint George Trek begins on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the participants meet, get to know one another, train, have fun and pray. Then it's off to Philmont Scout Ranch where they will hike the Sangre de Cristo Range of the Rocky Mountains. While hiking, they will experience a program that is designed to encourage the integration of morality, values, spirituality, faith, scripture and vocation in their lives as young Catholic Men and Women. Before returning home on Thursday, July 25, 2013, they will be asked to commit their own continued discernment as well as bringing their experiences home to their respective dioceses, so they can become effective peer leaders and role models for their fellow scouts.
APPLICATIONS DUE BY May 20, 2012. The Diocese of Wilmington’s Catholic Committee on Scouting is accepting applications (form attached) for the 2013 St. George Trek. You may include any additional information with your application. Applications must be received by May 20, 2012.
Catholic Youth Ministry will be partially sponsoring two Scouts this year. Please send your completed application to Stephen Williams or email him for more information.

On April 19, 2012, CYM staff and 344 youth, young adults, and adults gathered to give thanks and recognition for the giftedness of dozens of youth ministers. The scripts are now online for you to share with your parishes, schools, and families.
We are so proud of all our youth ministry leaders and the 18 young people we honored with the St. Timothy National Award. Mark you calendar for next year's event and get ready to participate in CYM's call to complete 80,000 hours of community service in the coming months.
We are all youth ministers! We share the common call, rooted in Baptism, to remember that there is one truth: Jesus is alive. And there is one command: Love one another!
