The dates have been set for the 2011-2012 YLT and now we need members. Parish and school leaders should follow these guidelines when selecting and naming young people to this year's YLT.
To name young people to this year's YLT, invite these young people to complete Form B (click here) and must be available to attand all meetings. Meeting dates are as follows:

Topics for this year include conversation skills, self control, time maagement, public speaking, listening skills, self confidence, and Theology of the Body. In addition, this year's YLT will be working with adult leaders to put together a new version of Youth Leadership Institute, an intensive three to four day youth leadership training workshop retreat for young people in the Diocese of Wilmington to be held in August 2012.

For the past several years, each Network meeting has included a two minute roundup that allows everyone at the table to share news, events, resources, fundraising ideas, and more with everyone else. No one talks, we listen.
Then, after the roundup, anyone who hasn’t already interrupted can ask questions about what they have just heard.
This year, Two Minute Roundup goes online.
Starting October 3rd and continuing every other Monday, one of the featured news items on the CYM website will be news that you want to share about the young people of the parish.
Did you have an event that went really well? A fundraiser than bombed so bad no one should ever try it? A few young people who deserve extra special notice? Or are you hosting an event that could include others from surrounding parishes? Try to think in terms of when your post will appear (think seasonally!)
You will, of course, post it online, submit any artwork you would like to share, including a flyer or picture. The deadline for each Monday’s post is the close of business the Wednesday before your assigned date. Posts will go live on late Sunday evening.
You may post information online using one of two forms: Two Minute Roundup w/ Artwork and Two Minute Roundup w/o Artwork
We only ask that you not try to sell something in which you personally gain. The other stipulation is that anyone who reads your entry can get all the information they need is less than two minutes. CYM will edit, so you need to practice what you write before submitting information.
Yes, but please take care of that yourself and let CYM know.
To maintain some continuity with the program, we created a scheduled based on the attendance at the 2011 Primary Contact Meeting. If your parish or school does not appear, please contact CYM and let us know that you would like to be added. If the first few months go smoothly, we will move to a weekly roundup.

Youth Ministry leaders from throughout the diocese (those paid and those who volunteer) are asked to choose at least one committee on which to serve in the coming months to help shape CYM programs and events.
Why? The simple answer is that we want the input and energy of as many people as possible when evaluating current programs and planning new ones. Effective ministry with young people happens most effectively on the local level - in parishes and schools. This means local leader’s perspective is important and we want that perspective to help shape the future.
How do I decide which committee to choose? First, read through the descriptions below. Does one intrigue you? Does the thought of serving on another excite you? Do you have an opinion of how one particular program or event is held that you want to share? If so, consider those committees first. Second, pray about your decision. Participating will require time, energy, and effort on your part. Third, fill out the online form and submit your choice. Unless you have been specifically invited to join one committee or another, the choice is yours. Please note: when you fill out the form, you will be asked if you would consider serving as chairperson, so please be prepared to answer.
What does being chairperson mean? Committee chairs will be in charge of setting meetings, posting minutes on the Forum, and keeping members on track.
How much time will this take? It depends. Some committees will meet monthly. Others will only meet once or twice and then online or via conference call. All committees will use the CYM Forum to post thoughts, ideas, minutes of meetings, and plans so that all Forum members can leave feedback and see decisions as they are made.
In Numbers, chapter 11, Moses complains that he has too much work to do and can not possibly meet the needs of all those in his charge. God tells him to gather people known to be wise to share the mantle of leadership.
That’s exactly what we thought we would try.
Fill in the online form today and then wait. CYM will let you know who will chair the committee and who has offered to serve on it on or about October 16, 2011.
Then, the work begins.
NCYC Transportation and Eventing Activities
(Now through November 20, 2011) This group of adult leaders who will already be attending NCYC in November 2011 will be charged with coming up with travel games, movies, ice breakers, etc. for the 12 hours bus ride and for coming up with activities for those that are flying. All these activities or games will lead up to evening activities and daily reflections (that this group will facilitate) while at NCYC. Time requirements: three to four meetings, can be done online or in person.
Pilgrimage 2012
(10/18/11, 2/7/12, 3/6/12) This committee will take a look at the success of the first two years of this event and see what changes might need to be made. Do we keep the concert at the end of the day? Do we add lunch? Do we leave it alone and not change anything? How do we communicate to schools and parishes to build participation? What do the t-shirts look like (or do we even have t-shirts)? What do participants “get” for their $15? Time Requirements: three to four meetings, can be done online or in person. Should include previous Pilgrimage participants.
CYM Annual Awards
(Now through February 2012) Now in its 9th year, this event needs a new look at the awards we present. Not the names or descriptions, but the physical awards given. This group will work with CYM staff - and potentially young people - to design new awards for the 2012. The group will also have input on the agenda, the flow of the evening, what we eat, and what we give away. Time Requirements: three to four meeting, can be done online or in person. Should include leaders who have attended an annual dinner.
Note, this committee is different from “CYM Recognition Dinner Committee” which is the group of CYM staff and board members who review nominations and choose award recipients.”
Youth Leadership Institute
(Now through August 2012) Once upon a time, this was a successful program CYM offered to young people in the diocese. We are hoping that this team, in collaboration with the 2011-2012 Youth Leadership Team can put together a three or four day intensive training for young people, with significant buy-in from our Catholic schools, for August 2012. This group will look at past models, ideas from around the country, and decide on timing, location, costs, presenters, and even the color of the t-shirts. Some face to face meetings required.
One Spirit One Church
(Now through Fall 2012) Relegated to every other year to help grow our diocese’s attendance at NCYC, this event gathers high school young people together for a day of reflection, music, liturgy, and (we hope) fun. Planning for fall 2012 begins now. This team will choose the speaker, location, theme, and decide what we have for lunch. Some face to face meetings required.
