Coming Home

The suitcases may be unpacked, but the stories will take much longer to process and unfold. Anthony Albence and Patrick Donovan returned from Rwanda, Kenya and the United Kingdom on Monday, September 27th and in the coming weeks and months will begin to give witness to the hope, heartache, and resurrection they visited. In the meantime, thanks for your prayers.

This week, we offer the following links, information, and useful resources.

Need Some Election Resources?

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has published more helpful materials to assist youth ministers in implementing elements of the bishops’ program Faithful Citizenship: A Catholic Call to Political Responsibility. This goal of this initiative is to assist all members of the national Catholic community in learning about the intersection of our faith traditions with our role as members of American democratic society--especially in the midst of an election season. As the bishops’ state: In the Catholic tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue; participation in the political process is a moral obligation. For more info click here.

National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry

There’s still time (although not much!) to register for NCCYM. This conference, the leading Catholic venue for ministry formation on the national level, is sponsored by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) and is hosted this year by the Diocese of Pittsburgh’s Department for Youth and Young Adult Ministry. The conference will be held from December 2-5, 2004, and this year’s conference theme is Love Builds Bridges: El Amor Construye Puentes. Please be sure that your registration is received by CYM no later than Friday, 10/15. For further information, please contact the CYM office via e-mail at catholicyouth@cdow.org.

Youth Leadership Institute Survey

Your help is needed to assist CYM in discerning the most effective path to follow in offering opportunities for education and development for young leaders in our Diocese. Please click here (or here if you have trouble) to download a brief survey on this topic. Your input is key.

Good News
At the CYM Cross Country Meet last weekend one of the runners fell. Instead of ensuring a better finish, another runner stopped and returned to help his opponent. Now that's good ministry!

Fall Catechetical Day
CYM is partnering with the Office for Religious Education to offer the Fall Catechetical Leaders Formation Day on Saturday, October 16th. Adult leaders in Youth Ministry are invited to register for any of the sessions offered, but are especially encouraged to consider attending the sessions offered focusing on youth-related issues. Consistent with CYM’s focus on “Youth at Risk” this year, the Fall formation day will feature seminars focusing on Self-Injury (“Cutting”) and Youth Suicide. For more information, click here.

Take a Walk, Save a Life
St. Mary of the Assumption in Hockessin, DE will be hosting a "Miracle Mile" walk-a-thon on Sunday, October 17th at 3pm. All proceeds raised through this event benefit St. Jude Children's Hospital in Tennessee. This hospital is internationally known for finding cures and saving children with cancer and other diseases. For more information or to obtain a Sponsor Form, contact Robyn Correale at (302) 239-7100 x.20

Quick Quiz
Congratulations to Maria Giorgi of St. Elizabeth's High School, who correctly identified last issue's quote by Mother Theresa.

For this issue: Be the first to email CYM with the answer to this question: When did youth ministry officially begin in the Diocese of Wilmington?
