Chat Online: All About Vocations

Did you know there is a great website especially designed to teach young people about their faith? Well, there are probably lots of sites like these, but the best we've found is Disciples Now. This week, for National Vocations Awareness Week, DN is hosting an online chat for young people every night. Mark your calendars for the Vocation of Marriage chat, which features internationally known recording artist Steve Angrisano and his wife, Jenny as well as a lesser known diocesan director of youth ministry Patrick Donovan and his wife, Maureen. Membership is free, so spread the word to your young people and tell them to get online and learn all about being disciples...now!

Tsunami Relief

There are some touchstone moments for each generation. . . Where were you when Kennedy was shot? . . . Where were you when the Challenger exploded? . . . Where were you on 9/11? Might the question for today’s generation of young people from their peers throughout our world be . . . Where were you during the Indian Ocean Tsunami?

We look towards the Indian Ocean and see the devastation that has claimed more than 150,000 souls and displaced and discomforted countless others. As U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan toured the Aceh province, he stated, “You wonder, where are the people? What has happened to them?”

Please visit the NFCYM's Tsunami Relief site, http://www.nfcym.org/v3/resources/tsunami.html. It outlines two possibilities for young people to express their solidarity with the tsunami victims; through Catholic Relief Services and Souper Bowl of Caring.

In addition, you may want to visit http://homepage.mac.com/demark/tsunami/8.html for awe inspiring before and after pictures of the areas most affected.

This Week on Cable: CYM Sportsmanship at its Best

Do your players want to be on television? Well, maybe they already are! In an effort to encourage sportsmanship at CYM events, the CYM sportsmanship video, Dare to Be Different, will be airing on various cable channels at various times over the next two weeks. To see the schedule of show times, click here. You could also download a Discussion Guide for parents, coaches, and players!

Training Day at Salesianum

Salesianum School is sponsoring a day of education and formation opportunities for adult leaders in ministry. This year’s event, Saturday, February 12th, will be at the school in Wilmington. The day begins at 8:00am with breakfast and includes a catered lunch, provided by Boston Market. Salesianum requests a donation of $25 (or more) to defray costs for this event. Please note that adult leaders in youth ministry who attend the entire formation day (i.e., both morning and afternoon sessions) and submit a reflection paper on both topics covered and how the day’s learning will enhance one’s ministry with young people will receive one credit towards the intermediate level of certification. Please contact Anthony Albence with any questions related to certification credit for the day. For more information on the Day, click here.

March For Life Info Available

The March for Life information is available for your use and distribution. Last year hundreds of young people from the Diocese of Wilmington attended this important hope-filled event. Click here for all the links you'll need to plan your trip.

Summer Plans?

This year St. Mary Magdalen Parish Youth Ministry is organizing a trip to the Youth Conferences at Franciscan University in Steubenville, OH. All area churches are invited to send students and chaperones along on this intense weekend experience. With an exciting lineup of speakers, musicians, and presenters, the High School Youth Conferences will challenge Catholic youth to stand firm in their faith, rely upon the Christ as their guide, friend and Savior, and challenge them to show their faith to the world. A highlight of the weekend is a powerful time of Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration. Learn more about these conferences on the school's site. There is space for one charter bus from the area. St. Mary Magdalen youth ministry will also be hosting preparation sessions for the students going on the trip. Requests to join the group will be taken on a first come first served basis. Please contact Alison Szczerba – SMM CYM at 302-652-6800 x39 or youthsmm@comcast.net.
