Coming in March: Two Great Events

Have you thought about who your parish or school is sending to the upcoming Youth Leadership Institute (YLI)? If not, download all the information (or wait by your mailbox) and pass the info along to the leaders - or potential leaders - in your community. YLI will be held from March 30th (evening arrival) to April 3rd (mid-afternoon departure) at St. Thomas More Academy in Magnolia, DE (near Dover). CYM is pleased to welcome back the Center for Ministry Development (CMD) as partners in offering the program. Sign up soon, as a limited number of spaces are available. For more info, click here. Limited scholarships available

The other great event coming next month is Nexus, our annual high school rally. This year's theme: Forgive. The keynote for the day is Bud Welch. Bud's daughter, Julie Marie, was killed in the Wednesday, April 19, 1995 blast that destroyed the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, OK. He talks about his journey from rage and temporary insanity to seeking forgiveness. For a brief biography on Bud, click here. Our musical guest for the day is Sarah Hart. Sarah has been entertaining folks with her amazing talent for years. For more information on Sarah, click here. For all the Nexus information, click here.

Spring Formation Day Set

CYM is pleased to continue our partnership with the Office for Religious Education in offering personal and professional development opportunities for adult leaders in ministry. The next formation day will be held on Saturday, March 12th at Holy Family Parish’s Religious Education Center from 8:30am-1:30pm. All sessions are open to adult leaders in youth ministry, but CYM is particularly pleased to offer workshops on these formation days that are designed for adult leaders in youth ministry. For more information and to register for the session, visit http://www.cdow.org/cymltraining.html.

Please note that these sessions are “intermediate level” in nature—meaning that they are open to and appropriate for adult leaders who have a grasp of the basic tenets of ministry via any formal training in foundational elements of youth ministry and/or practical experience in the field. Adult leaders who attend this session, and who complete a 1-2 page reflection paper detailing how the material presented will enhance one’s ministry to and with young people, will receive 1 credit towards intermediate level certification (i.e., 10 hours). For more information on the courses offered and about the certification process, please contact CYM.

The day begins at 8:00am with breakfast and includes a catered lunch, provided by Boston Market. Salesianum requests a donation of $25 (or more) to defray costs for this event. Please note that adult leaders in youth ministry who attend the entire formation day (i.e., both morning and afternoon sessions) and submit a reflection paper on both topics covered and how the day’s learning will enhance one’s ministry with young people will receive one credit towards the intermediate level of certification. Quick Quiz
Yes, Lori Armstrong was right! Nexus refers to point of coming together, which is exactly what our high school youth will do next month!

Since the Holy Father has been in the news lately, we thought we'd use the papacy for our quiz topic. Why did Angelo Roncalli choose the name John XXIII when we was elected? Hint: the answer gives a glimpse into the Church's past! Be the first to email CYM with the correct answer to win. (Previous winners must wait 90 days to win again!)
