So long Isabelle...don't hurry back!

With our unplanned long weekend behind us and almost all the electricity back on, we're back to business. We hope you and yours are safe and sound (not to mention dry) and that the few days off allowed some time for standing still and watching the wonders of God at work.

In case you haven't noticed, we've reduced the size of Ladders Online to make it easier to print and share. And in case you haven't figured it out, the underlined text features a link and the bold only (without underline) does not. Featured this week:

  1. Did you know that youth who never attend religious services have more than three times as many sexual partners as those who attend weekly? Find more fascinating facts like this in the National Study of Youth and Religion, which offers four reports available for downloading. A copy of each report is also available from CYM.

  2. CYM will be printing all Athletic Rosters for fall sports beginning Monday, September 29th. This week is the last opportunity to ensure that all teams have the proper ratio of cleared adults to participants as outlined in "For the Sake of God's Children"

  3. St. Anthony Messenger's Youth Update has a great new article about establishing boundaries in relationships. The article, written by Scott Miller of the NFCYM is a great discussion starter for Jr. and Sr. high youth.

  4. October 26, 2003, has been designated as the national celebration of World Youth Sunday by the U.S. bishops. This month's Pastors Mailing will contain great information promoting parish celebrations. Copies are also being sent to Associate Pastors. If they won't share, contact CYM and ask for your own copy!

  5. Have you heard about the Roman Triptych? This is a newly published collection of three poems by Pope John Paul II. In
addition to a copy for yourself, consider giving this hardbound book as a gift to teens, adult volunteers, catechists, confirmandi, and other friends. Available in English and Spanish. Sale priced at $14.95. A
downloadable flyer for the Roman Triptych is also available in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.

  6. The deadline is coming for Kommotion 2003! To register, submit your numbers in the next two weeks.

  7. If you're involved in youth ministry and are looking for a weekend away to relax, check out the Chesapeake Bay Conference.

  8. Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary
School Principals are launching their ninth annual search for
outstanding youth volunteers. Young people in grades 5-12
who have worked to improve their communities through
volunteer activities over the past year have until October 31
to apply. If you know young people who deserve recognition
for outstanding volunteer service, encourage them to
    apply.
Application forms are available online or by calling 888-450-9961.

Finally, as we look around us at the state of the world, why not invite young people (and adults) to use the feast of St. Francis of Assisi (October 4) as an opportunity to focus on Christian peacemaking. Consider using this pledge of nonviolence in your ministry.
