September 11, 2003

Today we remember those moments two years ago when our lives and our country were irrevocably changed. We remember what evil looked like as people we didn't know sought the destruction of strangers. And we remember, too, the look of selflessness as strangers of another kind rushed into the horror to help those they had never met. Most of all, we remember the longing for peace, the blessings we have, and the healing for which we all must continue to pray.

This week, we offer you the following:

  1. Last week's edition of Ladders Online did not go out as scheduled to many subscribers due to a technical problem. It should have been delivered just a few days ago. We apologize for the inconvenience.

  2. Calling all Girl Scout Leaders: Want to be trained in guiding young ladies through the Religious Recognition Medals? There will be a Regional Training Saturday, October 4, 2003. Counselors as well as adults who would like to be trainers are invited.

  3. Do you know what the law says about showing movies? There are certain rules  that apply to churches and schools, so we're providing a resource for your use.

  4. What are you doing this Saturday? Check out the classes available in the new Youth Ministry Institute. Eight new opportunities for training and continuing education are offered for those in ministry to, with, and for our young church.

  5. The Diocese of Wilmington will hold a Liturgical Convocation on October 3-5, 2003 at the Wyndham Hotel. The theme is "Eucharist: See what you are - become what you see" and will focus on the Eucharist as Mystagogia. The keynote speaker will be Reverend Edward Foley. In addition to the above link, you can also call 302-573-3137 for a brochure. Cost has been reduced to $100 for the entire weekend and $60 for Saturday only.

  6. Have you started plugging Kommotion 2003 yet? If not, start today by inviting your young people to the Jr. High Rally coming this October. Or register online!

  7. If you are a youth ministry volunteer and are looking for a weekend away to relax and renew, check out the Chesapeake Bay Conference.

  8. The Diocesan group going to NCYC will meet on Monday, October 20th at 7 p.m. at Holy Cross in Dover. More information is being sent to all delegates this week.

  9. In case you missed it, we've posted a Blessing for Athletes online. Encourage your pastor or associate pastor to invite all athletes to a specific parish Mass (or repeat the blessing at all Masses one weekend) and share this opportunity with the whole parish community.

  10. The theme for Nexus 2004 (March 14, 2004) is "Standing on Holy Ground" and will focus on our call to be of service to our neighbor. If you have pictures of young people from your parish serving their neighbor, please submit them to CYM.

The September Pastor's Mailing will go out shortly and will include suggestions for celebrating World Youth Day Sunday in your parishes!

If you are receiving Ladders Online for the first time, please know that we've just updated our records with new email addresses for Principals, DREs and AAPs. Thanks.
