Ladders Online is sent about every other week to more than 200 youth ministers in the Diocese of Wilmington. 'Wait a minute!' you say, 'We don't have that many parishes.' You're right, but all staff, DREs, volunteers, coaches, pastors, and paid Coordinators of Youth Ministry are included in the count, since we're all called to minister to our young Church.

Oftentimes, the only way you'll hear of resources or upcoming events is through this email service. So please read carefully! We've already saved hundreds of dollars on postage and printing using Ladders Online as a vehicle for communicating with folks like you, so please pass the word. Send an email to catholicyouth@cdow.org if you know someone who'd like to receive these notices or if your own copy isn't readable.

All are invited to join the CYM staff this Friday, March 1st for our monthly First Friday Liturgy and Lunch. Mass will begin at 11:30 a.m. and a light lunch will follow. Please call Linda at 302-658-3800 or email catholicyouth@cdow.org  if you plan to join us.

Nexus 2002 is in danger of being cancelled! Please respond this week if you are bringing a group. Everything you need to register is just a click away at  http://cdowcym.org/nexus/index.htm.

There is still room available for those who need to attend Basic Certification. Please visit http://www.cdow.org/cymltraining.html to get a copy of the registration form and to see the spring training dates.

Something new is happening this summer at the University of Notre Dame. Well-known for its high academic standards and athletic tradition, for years Notre Dame has reached out to the nation's youth through its summer sports and academic camps. This summer, a new tradition begins: the Notre Dame Vocation Initiative (NDVI), funded by the Lilly Endowment Inc. and operating from within Notre Dame's Institute for Church Life, is coordinating a number of programs designed to foster a sense of vocation among a wide range of young people today, inviting them to become more aware of how they can live their whole lives as a response to a call from God. In summer 2002, NDVI will offer four separate weeks of the program, accommodating up to 400 students per week. ND Vision will run from June 17-21, June 24-28, July 8-12, and July 15-19. The cost for each student is $225. For more information and for online registration, visit the NDVI website at http://www.nd.edu/~ndvi. Scholarship money is available by emailing catholicyouth@cdow.org.

Each pastor received a letter from Patrick Donovan, Diocesan Director for Youth Ministry, encouraging their parish to consider hiring a youth minister for their parish. Ask your pastor about it! Even if your parish isn't ready to hire, CYM can offer some great training for parish staff, Christian Formation Committees, and the like. Surveys are due March 22, 2002.

World Youth Day is filling up! To attend, log onto the web and visit http://www.cdow.org/cymyouthday.html. Last call for posters, bookmarks and promotional videos! Please email us at catholicyouth@cdow.org and we’ll send these resources to you.

Two new resources are available from the Office for Catholic Youth Ministry. The new 2002 Resource Manual Because of the Call is now available for $6 (1/2 off the cover price) and an excellent new resource we hope you’ll never use is Dealing with the Death of a Young Person: A Practical and Compassionate Response, is available for $4. Email catholicyouth@cdow.org if you’d like to purchase either of these resources or simply send a check to CYM with your request.

Congratulations to Ruthie Patterson of Immaculate Conception in Elkton, MD who knew that Dare to be Different is the name of the new CYM sportsmanship video. This issue's question is below. Be the first to email  catholicyouth@cdow.org with the correct answer and a great prize could be yours:

? How many parishes have a paid person on staff whose only job is to serve the parish community as a youth minister? The answer might surprise you!
