“Do you wish your prayer to fly toward God? Give it two wings: fasting and almsgiving.” (Saint Augustine) To discover the rules of fast and abstinence and more online prayers, suggestions, recipes and tips for living Lent, visit Resources for Lent at www.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/lent.html. This site has a daily thought for each day as well as other links for prayer and fasting ideas for Lent.
Young People interested in planning Nexus should meet at the CYM offices on February 17th and 24th from 2 – 4 p.m. To get more information on Nexus, including flyers, permission slips, registration materials, and directions to St. Mark’s High School, please visit http://www.cdow.org/cymjoinup.html.
We continue to fill the spaces for World Youth Day at a steady pace. To attend, go to http://www.cdow.org/cymyouthday.html. If you would like posters to hang at your parish or school, a video to show to potential pilgrims, or bookmarks to give out to encourage others to pray for your journey, please email us at catholicyouth@cdow.org and we’ll send these resources to you.
Two new resources are available from the Office for Catholic Youth Ministry. The new 2002 Resource Manual Because of the Call is now available for $6 (1/2 off the cover price) and an excellent new resource we hope you’ll never use is Dealing with the Death of a Young Person: A Practical and Compassionate Response, available for $4. Email catholicyouth@cdow.org if you’d like to purchase either of these resources or simply send a check to CYM with your request.
Theology on Tap, which proved to be such a success during Advent, will be back for Lent! Flyers are available at http://www.cdowcym.org/pdf/springtot.pdf for you to print and send to all the young adults you know. We've got great topics and fantastic presenters lined up so join us in our new location, the Waterworks Café, during February and March.
Applications for this year’s Catholic Campaign for Human Development’s (CCHD) local grants are now available! Eligible projects must involve a poverty group and that group must have a dominant voice (i.e., decision-making power) in the anti-poverty project. CCHD funds efforts aimed at grass roots development geared to effecting institutional change that effect poverty situations. CCHD does not fund direct service or individually-based self-help projects. Grant awards range from $1000-$7500. For more information or to receive a copy of the RFP and a local application form, write to Andrew A. Zampini, S.F.O. at the Catholic Charities address or call 302-655-9624 or e-mail at azampini@ccwilm.org. All applications are due by April 1, 2002.
Youth at Risk has added an Online Resource Center to the web. Check it out at http://www.cdow.org/cymrisk.html. You’ll find Talking Points Papers on all youth-at-risk issues, lesson plans, handouts, and ideas to download.
Valentines Day, True Love Waits is in the air. True Love Waits: Seize the Net is live on the web at http://www.lifeway.com/tlw/.

Congratulations to John and Eileen Horan, youth ministry volunteers from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish, who answered the trivia questions in our last issue correctly! For the answers, visit http://www.cdow.org/cymyouthday.html. This issue’s trivia question: What is the name of the new sportsmanship video produced by CYM? Simply hit reply and send us your answer!
