I discover who I am in the washing of the feet

In John 13, Jesus does something extraordinary. He, the Master and Teacher, washes the feet of his followers. They are overwhelmed at the experience and Jesus’ challenge to them to go and do the same.

Now, it’s your turn. There are people in our diocese in need. There are homes to be painted, walls to be built, weeds to be pulled, fences to be mended. You are invited to serve as Jesus did. You are invited to make a difference in the lives of those who live down the road, around the corner, and next door. You are invited to wash feet.

It is an experience that can change you, move you, inspire you, and lead you to challenge others to go and do the same. It is self-discovery at its best.

Age Restrictions

Space for the Cambridge week is limited to 24 young people per week. Space for week two is limited to 40 participants.

In addition, only those who will be 16 or older on June 1, 2014 can participate in Cambridge. Anyone who has completed their freshman year of high school can participate in Salisbury.

Choose a week and register online

There are two opportunities to serve in 2014 in Easton and Cambridge, MD (we stay in Cambridge and work in both Easton and Cambridge) and in Salisbury, MD.

In Easton and Cambridge, we partner with Habitat for Humanity to landscape, put the finishing touches on homes being built and, in some cases, help to build homes. In Salisbury, we ask the local parishes to identify families in need of help. For those families, we paint, landscape, build fences, and clean. Assistance will also be provided at the Catholic Campus Ministry house on the campus of  Salisbury University.

There are three steps (but two extra forms if you choose the Cambridge week) to the registration process.

  1. Register and pay online using the link above.
  2. Complete Form A (all weeks). Either use the link below or the one in the confirmation email you receive after step one.
    • Complete the Habitat Waiver. Participants that will be 18 years old on or before the week must complete the adult waiver form. (Cambridge only). Either use the link below or the one in the confirmation email you receive after step one.
    • Complete the YMCA Waiver. Participants that will be 18 years old on or before the week must complete the adult waiver from. (Cambridge only). Either use the link below or the one in the confirmation email you receive after step one.
  3. Send your completed waivers (Cambridge only) to CYM, 1626 N. Union St., Wilmington, DE 19806. Credit card payment is now accepted when the registration is completed online. If you choose to pay by check please mail it along with the waiver forms (weeks one and three only).

Only after all these steps are complete is your registration considered complete.

Prepare and Pack

Now that you have registered, download the documents below to help you prepare for your week of service.

Please read over the reflection questions and be prepared to discuss the answers on the first night of your week of service.

Other Information

You must be able to stay the entire week. Participants are not permitted to arrive late or leave early.

You will receive a confirmation email after you complete the online registration. You will also receive a final email after your registration is completed. This email will include a schedule of the week you will attend.

If you need to switch weeks or, for some reason, withdraw, please contact CYM. Refunds are only issued if we can find someone to fill your spot (which is usually not a problem). There are no refunds for those who cancel in the two weeks prior to the start of your week, regardless of whether others are on the waiting list. Remember: You are on the waiting list until your registration is complete and you have received the final email telling you that you are ready to go.

After that, you will not receive another communication until a few days before your week of service.

Adult Chaperones

Adults willing to be present to the young people as positive role models and present to the rest of the adult team as collaborators in ministry are welcome to complete this application. CYM screens all adult applicants for service in accord with FSGC policies. We seek adults who work well with other adults, has some basic (or, even better, advanced) skills in construction and landscaping, and who have prior experience working with young people.
